Equitable Arts Access Starts With Small Steps

For the price of a coffee, you can help sustain equitable arts access for underserved youth in Los Angeles. Your monthly support helps provide the research-backed creative, academic, and emotional benefits of meaningful arts education.

During the 2025-26 school year alone, City Hearts anticipates serving nearly 800 students while delivering over 1,200 classes. For many students in Los Angeles, City Hearts is not just an arts program: it’s the only place they can experience the arts.

  • Recently, 80% of elementary, middle, and high school students reported having no access to arts classes aside from City Hearts.
  • 86% of our students are considered socio-economically disadvantaged, and 76% qualify for free or reduced lunch, living in communities where arts opportunities are often the first to disappear.

Yet, the research is clear: when students from disadvantaged backgrounds receive “arts-rich” education, their long-term outcomes dramatically improve. According to the National Endowment for the Arts, these students are:

  • 5 times less likely to drop out of school.
  • 4 times more likely to earn a bachelor’s degree.
  • 30% more likely to pursue a professional career.

Meaningful arts education isn’t a luxury: it is a proven path to academic success, emotional health, and the nurturing of creative expression.
